Speaker Biography<\/h4>

Claire Doherty MBE is an award-winning creative director and writer with an international reputation for ground-breaking place-based arts producing and artistic direction. Over the past two decades, she has worked across art forms and film, public art, TV and performance sectors to produce projects that challenge the ways in which we tell stories of the places we move through and inhabit. <\/p>\n

Her projects have seen her lead a cultural expedition to the Arctic and establish a new sovereign nation (Nowhereisland: London 2012 Cultural Olympiad); initiate the 100-year Future Library project for Oslo; sustain a non-stop 552-hour performance programme with American artist Theaster Gates; build a permanent monument to social justice (Mark Wallinger, Runnymede); commission 20 international artists across five cities in New Zealand (One Day Sculpture) and spark a gold rush on Folkestone\u2019s beach (Folkestone Digs). <\/p>\n

As a writer and research fellow, she has published four volumes on the future of public art and was a member of UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Peer Review College, 2007\u201311. <\/p>\n

As a champion of inclusive creative leadership she co-devised and led Culture Reset, a programme for 200 creative producers across the arts during the pandemic and is a champion of equitable and inclusive representation. <\/p>\n

She is the Creative and Project Director of GALWAD, one of ten projects for Unboxed: Creativity in the UK, and the Welsh home nation project produced by a collective of Welsh organisations and individuals led by National Theatre Wales. GALWAD takes place from 26th September – 2nd October 2022 online and on Sky Arts.<\/p><\/p>
