{"id":1804,"date":"2021-02-25T11:44:26","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T11:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/audienceofthefuture.live\/?p=1804"},"modified":"2021-03-05T15:45:58","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T15:45:58","slug":"royal-shakespeare-company-opens-dream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/audienceofthefuture.live\/2021\/02\/royal-shakespeare-company-opens-dream\/","title":{"rendered":"Royal Shakespeare Company Opens &#8216;Dream&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Live performance and gaming technology come together for <em>Dream<\/em>, an Audience of the Future Demonstrator project from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org.uk\/\">Royal Shakespeare Company<\/a>, combining live performance and gaming technology to explore the future for audiences and live theatre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is one of four Audience of the Future Demonstrator projects, supported by the government&#8217;s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund which is delivered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/\">UK Research and Innovation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a4 <a href=\"https:\/\/dream.online\/\">Dream<\/a> \u2013 live, online performance set in a virtual midsummer forest<br>\u27a4 Performance: Friday 12 March &#8211; Saturday 20 March 2021<br>\u27a4 Booking: Tickets available from today at <a href=\"https:\/\/dream.online\/\">dream.online<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Royal Shakespeare Company, in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/mif.co.uk\/\">Manchester International Festival<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshmallowlaserfeast.com\/\">Marshmallow Laser Feast<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/philharmonia.co.uk\/\">Philharmonia Orchestra<\/a> will stage a live performance of Dream using motion capture as the culmination of a major piece of cutting-edge research and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Dream | Trailer\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1UM69ygvtiA?feature=oembed\"  allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This pioneering collaboration explores how audiences could experience live performance in the future. Dream was due to open in Spring 2020 as an in person and online live performance and has been recreated during the pandemic for online audiences whilst theatres remain closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspired by Shakespeare\u2019s &#8216;A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream&#8217;, the project combines theatre, music and groundbreaking technology in an extraordinary exploration into the future of live performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Set in a virtual midsummer forest, under the shadow of gathering clouds at dusk, lit by the glimmer of fireflies, Puck acts as the guide. Audiences are invited to explore the forest from the canopy of the trees to the roots, meet the sprites, Cobweb, Mustardseed, Peaseblossom and Moth, and take an extraordinary journey into the eye of a cataclysmic storm. Together with Puck they must regrow the forest before the dawn. When day breaks, the spell breaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 50-minute online event will be a shared experience between remote audience members and the seven actors who play Puck and the sprites. Audiences can choose to buy a \u00a310 ticket to take part and at key points in the play directly influence the world of the actors, or to view the performance for free. The ten Dream performances are scheduled so that audiences across the world can join the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highly anticipated, the online performance has attracted a lot of press attention, with articles in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2021\/feb\/07\/is-this-an-avatar-i-see-before-me-audience-takes-to-stage-in-virtual-shakespeare-play\">The Guardian<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-55969712\">BBC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/theatre\/what-to-see\/fortnite-forest-arden-rsc-gives-theatre-gaming-spin\/\">The Telegraph<\/a> and more&#8230;
