A new version of its experimental platform launched in May 2020, creating the world\u2019s first online-only eSports tournaments. With conventional stadia closed and events cancelled, this experience recreates the thrill of a live tournament in homes around the world. The platform forms the basis of technology that could be used to support conventional sports as they too explore new propositions for remote audiences.<\/p>\n

Through a consortium led by ESL, the largest esports company in the world, and including leading academics and innovators across VR\/AR, AI, data-driven content production and broadcast, Weavr will transform the experiences of millions of fans not only in esports, but in traditional sports broadcast and live entertainment more broadly.\nThe consortium also includes University of York, dock10, REWIND, Focal Point VR and Cybula, joined by Future Visual to deliver immersive personalised experiences for fans across any device including VR and AR.<\/p>\n

It incorporates immersive experiences for remote audiences that seamlessly stretch across virtual and physical spaces, multiple displays, mobile devices, VR video telepresence and augmented reality overlays, enabling viewers to teleport in between the live arena, virtual game worlds and augmented living rooms.<\/p>\n

Responding to the fans\u2019 eagerness to learn and to become better players, Weavr creates cross-reality spaces in which fans immerse themselves in high fidelity statistics, visualisations and data-driven stories that give them deep insights into the live match.<\/p>\n

It moves away from move away from linear \u201cone-for-all\u201d coverage towards hyper-personalised experiences. Weavr experiences are tailored to each viewer\u2019s interests, fully interactive, and provide individualised insights by comparing each viewer\u2019s own amateur performance statistics to those of professional players. Viewers are able to share their individual viewing experiences with other Weavr users and via social networks in real-time, blurring the boundaries between consuming and creating.<\/p>\n
